Oil and natural gas producers across the Lone Star State continue to leverage advanced technologies to reduce methane emissions, minimize flaring, and deploy real-time monitoring systems, resulting in significant environmental progress.
Between 2015 and 2022, methane emissions dropped 42% in key production regions per data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These reductions were in large part due to the collaborative efforts of The Environmental Partnership, a voluntary coalition of oil and natural gas companies, whose flare management program, in addition to industry initiatives, helped reduce flaring volumes in the U.S. by 10% in 2023.
The Partnership, whose members represent nearly 70 percent of U.S. onshore oil and gas production, plays an instrumental role in supporting companies in their efforts to improve the industry’s environmental performance. This commitment, along with the work of the Texas Methane & Flaring Coalition, ensures continued environmental progress both in Texas and nationwide.
